The Texan (The Wellerman)
There once was a state that was a country,
The name of the state was Texas you see,
The land of the free, the home of the brave,
Oh to a hunting we’ll go…
Soon may the whitetails come,
To bring us steak and mounts and fun,
One day, when the hunting is done,
We’ll take our rifles and go…
In her rivers and down by her shores,
Lots of rods and reels we bore,
“Just one more cast” we all swore,
Oh to a fishing we’ll go…
Soon may, the catfish come,
The bass, the trout are also welcome,
One day, when the fishing is done,
We’ll take our rods and go…
Da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Before the trucks, before the cars,
There once was a beast with more power,
With its saddle on, the horse runs like thunder,
Oh, a horseback riding we’ll go…
Soon may the horses come,
With speed and power, they’ll surely run,
One day, when the riding is done,
We’ll take our horses and go…
Under the lights, with incredible speed,
Our football players all decree,
That they are the best in the country,
We’ll take that touchdown and go…
Soon, may the touchdowns come,
To bring us glory and pride and fun,
One day, when the championships won,
We’ll take our trophies and go…
Da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
One lone star and not one more,
Our glorious flag does still bore,
If all others lost, the winds no more,
Still our flag will flow,
Soon, may the winds come,
So that our flag can wave in the sun,
One day, when the saluting is done,
We’ll fold our flag and go….
As far as I’ve heard, our prides not gone,
The heroes of the past, their legends live on,
The Texan makes his “Yee-Haw” call,
To encourage his brothers, sisters and all…
Soon, may Texans come,
Together in heart and soul as one,
One day, when our journeys are done,
Our legends will never go…
Soon, may Texans come,
Together in heart and soul as one,
One day, when our journeys are done,
Our legends will never go!!!
